Unit 10527
Category: skeleton dug in 2004
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: skeleton
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: Remnants of a phytholith surround the skeleton. Individual appears very young- possibly a late term fetus. More lab analysis is needed to say with any certainty. To the north east is another burial cut of what appears to be a child- U10529. Clay soil ws very compact around the skeleton and was adhearing to the bone. Very difficult to excavate and expose. Bone in very ppor condition. Both hands and feet and are concentrated at the pelvis and were therefore bagged together. I couldn’t tell them apart in the field. Phytolith sample was taken and given fill number. Concentration of phytoliths directly surrounding skeleton but remnants of phytoliths found thourghout cut. Shape of cut also suggests a basket.
X and Y of Targets: Target A - X: 926.04; Target A - Y: 966.5; Target B - X: 926.04; Target B - Y: 966.82; Target C - X: 0; Target C - Y: 0; Target D - X: 0; Target D - Y: 0
Body: Body is loosely flexed on its left side
Head: Head is also on its left side and is oriented towards the north
Right Arm: Right arm is straight along right side of the body. Right humerus is separated from the right radius and ulna which are still in articulation
Left Arm: Left arm appears disturbed. Left humerus is moved to the east of the body as is the lower arm
Right Leg: Right femur extends out from the body at a right angle and the tibia is paralle to the femur so that the foot is at the ischium.
Left Leg: Left leg mirrors the right only it is at a slightly sharper angle closer to the body
Other comments: Hands and feet are scattered throughout
Surface Modifications: Some root disturbance in the eastern area of the cut. Bone is in poor condition
