Data Category Information: Location: in abandoned building; Deposition: finely bedded

 

Dimensions: 3m x 2.5m 

 

Discussion: unit comprised entirely of room fill. The fill is layered extensively w/ clear lines of burning, clay, incomplete plaster levels, etc. Thick layer of bone, as well, all animal. Clearly midden room fill. 2 possible plaster lines, one running north/south with a curve and one following a possible wall. Part of which is shown in F1602 (wall 2). Wall is not clearly defined in space 229. Unit shows western wall of 229 sits on midden layer and ends approximately 30cm below surface. 

 

Recognition: defined by walls. Dark brown w/ black layers and layers of burnt brick and bone 

Definition: boundaries recognized by walls and plaster lines 

Execution: Mattock, trowel, shovel, hoe, from east end to west 

Condition: soil is vey wet generally, with dry layer on top 

Consistency: firm and strong/compact 

Colour: dark brown withlayers of black and dark orange (many different colored layers) 

Texture: silty clay to clay/clay loam 

Bedding: compound layered- anywhere from 2mm-3cm charcoal, bone, clay, burnt brick, plaster 

Inclusions: Obs. (less than 2%), chipped stone (less than 1%), clay balls (lt 1%), bone (lt 5%), teeth, shell, brick, mortar, plaster bits, natural stone, generally all small amounts 

Post-depositional Features: disturbance by animals and roots 

Basal Boundary: arbitrary diffuse wavy smooth boundary
