Unit 10823

Category: layer    dug in 2004

Area: South

Interpretive Categories: arbitrary layer,fill

Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: posthole; Deposition: homogeneous

Description: lowermost fill post retrieval pit 1703 FAST TRACK

Discussion: As I removed the plaster fill 10820 I noticed that the fill of the cut continued below. There appeared to be a brown clay with fine inclusions. I decided to excavate this untill I ran into the same material outside the cut at this level. The matrix is similar to the lower fill deposits visible in the south section (and excavated in 1997 as units 2897/3733; 2890/3361; 2876/3319). Therefore it is clear that this feature does not belong to feature 1703 and the pit was overdug.
