Unit 10827
Category: layer dug in 2004
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: fill,packing
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: niche; Deposition: heterogeneous
Description: fill of plastered niche f. 1708 FAST TRACK
Discussion: Mixed hard compact fill containing brick debris, large plaster chunks, charcoal and bone.
This fill was probably put in for construction purposes either because wall f. 267 became unstable or when the sucessor wall was built on top.
In the fill a horncore was found that was located in the northwest corner (x find 1). This was not embedded in the plaster lining of feature 1708. It is likely that the horncore was deliberately placed in this position.
