Unit 11544
Category: Layer dug in 2005
Area: TP
Interpretive Categories: pit infill
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: pit; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: This is an infill of a pit in north - east corner of an extension. Unit 11544 is same as 11527, which was excavated in season 2004 and finished arbitrary as the pit was in an area designated to put up a tent in it. As the tent is no longer in the trench, the excavation was continued and an infill was recorded as unit 11544.
It was a deep pit of a slightly trapezoid shape (the diameter at the top was approximately 120 cm, while at the bottom it was 130 cm). The cut of this pit (for both units 11527 and 11544) was recorded as unit 12204.
The unit was rather homogenous, dark brown and of a friable or even loose consistency. It contained a large number of x finds among which big fragments of a pot were recorded as x5 and some other similar fragments which could belong were found and logged with the pottery of this unit. In western part of the pit a lense of burut was noticed and around this some yellowish and orangish deposits. At the bottom of the pit in its basal boundary orangish deposits appeared, with some whitish fragments.
The pit (infills 11527 and 11544 and cut 12204) was excavated below a kiln (excavated in season 2004) as units 10913 (its inner part), 10914 (kiln construction), 10915 (kiln infill), 10952 (cut) - feature.
It seems to be the same situation as observed in soutern part of an extension, where bellow a kiln (units 8968, 10968, 10969) a pit of a similar trapezoid shape was excavated (units 11717, 11718).
This feature was transferred to Space 598 in 2015.
