Unit 11963
Category: Cluster dug in 2005
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: bucranium
Data Category Information: Location: building; Material: bucranium; Deposition: primary deposition
Discussion: Bucranium set in the wall niche. Plaster comes right against it.
X1 (bucranium) was exposed during morning, upon removal of 10281 x13 and the remains of x15. Some of the basal portions of 10281 x12 remain in place above x1, as their removal would likely affect the integrity of the bucranium. The bucranium appears nearly complete from the exposed interior view, however severely fragmented. The bucranium is entirely burned but was not exposed uniformly to the heat. The tips of both horns cores are calcined and white, while the bases of both the right and left horn cores appear to have been subjected to a mixture of high and low temperatures, being gray and white calcined as well as carbonized. The frontal and nasal areas appear burnt exhibiting both brown and black portions.
