Discussion: This unit is a cleaning and levelling unit of F.2428, F.2429, F.3320, F.3327, F.5052 and U.17235. Because of a huge disturbance in this area and because the focus of this excavation lay on the relations of the different features to each other, this unit was fast tracked and no finds recovered. It was noted though, that for the amount of soil moved, not many artefacts were included and all were rather strongly fragmented, which might be caused by the excavation with a pickaxe or handaxe. Finds cannot be attributed to mortar, brick or fill as they were not recovered separately. Traces of phytoliths seemed to occur regularly between layers of mortar and mudbrick. These layers were relatively easy to separate. The fill was partially recognisable through softer soil, especially after drying out. The slope of the mudbricks of F.2429 causes mortar layers to appear in the planum. After a day of dyring out, a few separate mudbricks were discernable (see 10/530). The buttress F.5052 abuts the wall F.2428, as one can see the small gap (1cm) between them. The plasrer of the buttress shwos up either on the elevation or in the plan (where the buttress was cut). Two more features (F.3334 and 3335) became visible during excavation, whose stratigraphy remains to be determined. They are defined by a gap and a plaster line.
