Unit 15412
Category: Layer dug in 2007
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: fill of grave
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: The cut for the Byzantine grave was not recognized at first, but instead the actual coffin (15420). The wood was well-defined and thus formed a clear containment of the fill (15412). The wooden coffin (15420) was well preserved like that of coffin (15027) in Foundation Trench 11. The fill was very middeny, as that it was dug into midden (15400) and likely refilled with the disturbed midden once the coffin was placed. Most of the fill was neolithic material, but there were some pieces of pottery that looked more modern and were probably deposited whrn the grave was cut [15421].
