Discussion: This unit represents the remainder of a Byzantine pitfill in a large bell-shaped pit (f.3331) within the SE corner of space 454 (461). The finds, e.g. tiles, indicate the late dating. This pit may have been used in a secondary burial context (SE veral singular human bones). Last year's extensive work in the pit allowed for a quick removal this season. The "fast track" option was discussed with JMR in order to gain access to the wall structure of b. 106, which is to be removed. Despite the fact that the exact stratigraphy of this SE corner in b. 106 still is unclear, the goal of removing all recent material in this part was reached. Open questions concerning the interplay between the pit f.3331 and b. 106 will be clarified when the walls f.3351 and f. 2427 are excavated.
