Unit 17229
Category: Layer dug in 2008
Area: Trench 5
Interpretive Categories: grave fill,room fill
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: After the appearance of bones of skeleton 16835, a patch of greyish earth, pretty clayey, was defined as a probable grave fill. During excavation, however, part of the skull turned out to run under white plastery lumps initially interpreted as a kind of installation (see sketch). We thus re-defined 17229 as part of 16896 (roomfill of space 342). 17229 represents the immediate surroundings of 16835 and is therefore sent to flotation entirely, except an archive sample (S2) and phytolith sample (S3) in order to retrieve the small bones.
