Unit 17542
Category: Layer dug in 2008
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Wooden post
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: building; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: Poss. Structural timber from a former engaged pillar - superseded by F6050 then utilised as a support for the structure.
2014:
Two clayball fragments were found in the w side and on the bottom of the post hole (u.22089), and were recorded as a part of this unit as this is what was found in the post hole. However, as this (i.e. the post) is now recorded as a cluster (this must have been changed at some point, as the paper version of the unit sheet from 2008 says it is a layer), not a fill, the connection of the clay balls to this unit is not optional. But as there is no uit for fill, this is the chosen solution.
No heights could be taken as there was no timber remaining by the time we began working on the building since 2012.
