Unit 17564
Category: Cluster dug in 2009
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Horn cores and skull
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Material: animal bone; Deposition: primary deposition; Basal Spit: Horn core
Description: Cattle horn core one of two pairs used in the construction of platform F.6051 as decorative elements. Located in the northern pedistals western side.
Discussion: Horn cores and skull, just top. Wen excavating the compact shaped clay core (19095), it became clear that the horns were not single units, but were still attached to the skull. Before it was inserted into he clay core, the back of the skull was cut off at the upper neck, and it seems to have been cut off around the eye sockets. It actually leaks down onto the layer in front, onto an earlier phase. Probably it was the skull of a yound adult (Louise Martin). Two numbers were originally taken out in 2008 when it was believed to be two separate horn cores.
