Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: Trench 5

Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: NS 500cm, EW 43cm, Depth 92cm
Discussion: This unit represents the mortar layers between the mudbrick courses of the western wall of B.107 (F.3344). The mortar is very firm and of clayey consistency and has a tendency to fracture rather than crumble. There are a few inclusions within the mortar but they include obsidian, bone, pottery, and small bones.
5.8.13: The mortar U. 18360 can be seen in the stratigraphy of wall F. 3344. U. 18330 is layered between the mudbrick U. 18359. It differs from the mudbricks because the layers are very crumbly and have a different color, inclusions and thickness. In order to make the mudbrick wall F. 3344 stick together, the mortar was put in between the mudbrick U. 18359.
The unit was excavated in 10 cm spits. The mortar changed a lot sınce its constructıon through compressıon, weathering and post excavation exposure to the sun and wind, especially compared to the mudbrick U. 18359. The mortar U. 18360 can be found in small patches within the layers of mudbrick U. 18359. It seems to closely fill bioturbation holes within the layers of mudbrick U. 18359. Sometimes found only in small amounts between the layers of mudbrick. Sometimes, we can't see it at all as if mudbricks were put on top of each other without mortar.
