Unit 18373
Category: Layer dug in 2012
Area: Trench 5
Interpretive Categories: mud bricks
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: 18373 is a layer of mud bricks that beling to F.3349. This wall is the younger wall of B.105, built on top of two older walls, and separated from them by a mortar layer (18374). It seems to cut them above at the southwestern corner. The western face of the wall is below the section of the trench. We started the excavation from the north because it was visible on the top of the lower walls, and because the three walls can be seen in the section of the Byzantine (?) pit, in the north. However, there the wall is totally disturbed by animal burrows at the point of having more meep meep burrows than preserved wall. The organisation of the wall can be seen in the section of the trench. The wall settles down a layer of mortar (18374), with three preserved rows of mudbricks, separated by the same mortar. The mudbricks are around 5/6cm thick. Lots of finds were found, sometimes quite big, but it's most of the time impossible to see if they come from the mudbricks or only from the mortar layer because of all the disturbances. The x2 (clay ball) was found in the plaster layer of the eastern lower wall (black mudbricks). Only a few part of the wall has been excavated this year. The while feature will be removed in 2013.
