Unit 19194
Category: Layer dug in 2016
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Fill of plastered post installation
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: posthole; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: Fill of plastered post installation on W. wall of B. 80. Backfill & packing around 2 burnt posts 18960 & 18961 within the plastered installation. Installation looks like it was designed for 3 posts but seemingly only the northern & southern ones remained in situ- central part of feature seems to be filled with plaster packing (aIthough this may have collapsed into the feature). Feature was originally found & partially recorded in 2010 with part of the upper fill left in situ as well as the lower part of fill (ie below top of plaster kerb).
All filI removed together as it has been badly burrowed & probably contaminated as it has been left open for several years. Contained worked bone cache which looks to have been deposited behind the central post & a number of obsidian flakes & tools which may have distributed through the deposit from a cache above.
Consistency: Loose
Colour: Light-mid grey
Texture: clay silt
Bedding: heterogenous
Inclusions: moderate ash & charcoal
Post-depositional Features: Contaminated with some modern material as feature has been open since 2010, also burrowing & root action
Basal Boundary: unclear-probably not bottomed as getting very deep & narrow. Badly burrowed at S end of feature
