Dimensions: EW 20 X NS 25 cm x 1cm thick 

Discussion: This infill was initially thought to have only belonged to F 1014, the baby burial within a basket. Upon the removal of the baby & basket it became apparent that the infant was placed directly above the feet of the individual below (sk 8598). So both the human remains specialists and the excavators believe that the baby was actually buried with the adult laying below. This infill was first exposed in 2002. 

Recognition: Infill surrounding SK. 8596 

Definition: Unclear, as very intertwined with infill below; after excavtion became apparent that they are the same 

Execution: bamboo picks, leaf trowel 

Condition: Treated in 2002 for preservation 

Consistency: compact 

Colour: grayish brown 

Texture: clay loam 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: flakes of charcoal (5%); clay aggregate (5%; orange); obsidian flakes; small (2mm) bits of plaster; phytoliths 

Post-depositional Features: salt accretions; a bit of root disturbances and rodent burials
