Unit 19633
Category: Layer dug in 2011
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Burial fill
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial
Dimensions: .78 m EW x .52 m NS x .19 m deep
Discussion: This layer consists of the fill associated with cut [19634] and skeleton (19635). It was increasingly firm as the burial was approached, and contained a fairly large quantity of charcoal. There was also a human finger bone above the level of the burial by about 10 cm, as well as some animal bone. The fill became noticeably more friable as the skeleton (19635) was lifted, which may relate to its proximity to an addition potential burial cut.
Recognition: found when removing central floor plaster (19645)
Definition: visible difference in soil quality from surrounding floor
Execution: trowel, leaf trowel, brushes, dental tools
Condition: cool
Consistency: friable to firm
Colour: grey-brown, mottled
Texture: silty clay
Bedding: massive
Inclusions: bone (human and animal), charcoal, shell
Post-depositional Features: floors laid overlying
Basal Boundary: mostly clear-- possible blurring with fill of lower burial
