Unit 1965
Category: layer dug in 1997
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: grave fill
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial; Deposition: homogeneous
Dimensions: 68 cm x 54 cm, D unkNown
Discussion: This was soil surrounding 2 parts of skeleton [1963] which is partly articulated, & may or may not belong to the same skeleton. The soil was treated as a single unit. No levels were taken or plan made, as this was disturbed & a continuation of 1996 excavation. Upon removal of skeleton [1963] torso, more vertebrae were found, but below these were more ribs. We decided therefore to treat that & its surrounding soil as new units & stopped unit [1965] at this arbitrary level.
Later.. .. Having examined the area for cuts & established some form of stratigraphy for this area, I excavated the soil underlying the S half of this unit which contained skeleton [1995], to which the pelvis & arm recorded as [1963] were found to belong. Layer [1965] could therefore be 2 separate layers, to N&S or could be a single unit containing 2 redeposited partial skeletons.
