Unit 20023
Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Hearth deposit
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: hearth; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: We were continuing digging F. 3436 and we recognized a new unit because of the consistency of the hearth deposit. This layer was more loose and not so compact than the layer below (U 18983). Also in the central part was more friable than the northern part of this unit. This unit was also formed with clay and ash. We defined small pieces of charcoral mostly in the north-western edge and here we found burnt animal bone. This hearth was formed because of human activity and seemed to be heterogenous.
Consistency: loose (northern edge), more firm (southern edge)
Colour: brown, gray, orange, black (northern edge)
Texture: ashy clay
Bedding: compound layered
Inclusions: animal bone, fragments of charcoral, shell
Post-depositional Features: burning
