Interpretive Categories: Hearth Superstructure

Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: hearth; Material: pise-like; Deposition: homogeneous

Description: Friable sandy clay top layer to hearth feature 3436. Appears to sit on top of earlier ashier hearth layers/floors.

Discussion: Unit was recognized in the process of determining the stratigraphic relationships between the hearth and the surrounding floor layers. The layer appears to be an obviously distinct superstructure layer, built in order to maintain the shape and structure of the hearth after long periods of use.
