Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: wall/blocking; Material: brick&mortar; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: Unit 20399 (f. 7059) was recognized as an independent feature as it was constructed of angular blocks resembling narrow bricks and covered with a light grey plaster which disassociated it with the infill removed as unit 20206. This small feature was most likely constructed as a partition wall demarcating a physical boundary between spaces within the area we fragmented into spaces 490 and 492, u. 20399 being associated with the latter. U. 20399 was constructed from three courses of mud brick averaging 30.5 cm in length, 7.5 cm in width, and 20.5 cm in depth, which were covered with what appeared to be a fine, light grey plaster or perhaps compacted mortar? The partition wall was constructed on top of brick infill (u. 20545) which had to be leveled in order to provide a stable platform on which to lay the brick. Unit 20399 was excavated quickly with a hand-held maddock and easily fragmented into its individual brick constituents.
