Unit 20689
Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Fill in pit
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: pit
Discussion: This unit was located between F3688 and the northern trench wall of B.102. The fill itself was seen clearly in plan with soil similar to other fill (20481 f.e.) but had rich inclusions of medium sized charcoal and also ash lenses. The fill was first found and defined during the 2012's season. The fill was rediscovered by us during the first days of this season. It is located right north of F3688 and goes into the northen trench wall, so its full extent remains unknown. It was found below U20481, room fill covering B.102 under top soil.
The soil was dark with many inclusions of charcoal and ash, which was help when defining it, i.e. its most prominent characters. Some animal bones and one or two pieces of obsidian were found when excavating it. All soil was sieved by the way. Otherwise it was quite homogenous compared to room fill with mainly soil and clay lenses as well as charcoal.
Consistency: Compact and hard
Colour: Dark orangish brown
