Unit 20802
Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Levelling layer of plaster
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Material: plaster; Deposition: homogeneous; Basal Spit: unpainted
Discussion: Evenly thin plaster layer in and over slight depression, which will probably turn out to be a burial. It is cut in the north-west by u.19721 (F.7001) and in the south-east by u.19716.
The upper surface of the layer was quite even/levelled with the floor of platform F.3508, as if to smooth out/level an underlaying unevenness (burial?), but it was also slightly sloping towards the middle (eastern middle).
The layer is clearly visible on the daily sketch of 20130629, although it is not marked there (it had not yet been given a u-nr and begun to be escavated). On the sketch of 20130702 it has been removed.
Consistency: Soft/friable
Colour: Light beige/whitish
Texture: Silt/chalk, with some sand in it
Bedding: Massive
Inclusions: Charcoal flakes less than 1%, hard white flakes of clay/lime rock fragments
Post-depositional Features: Probably trampled. Truncated by u.19721 and u.19716.
Basal Boundary: Matted/spread on underlaying layer. Sharp basal boundary. Slightly sloping towards the eastern middle.
