Unit 20833
Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: plaster on sides of NE platform
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: raised area (platform); Material: plaster; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: This unit was a plaster layer around the W and S sides of the NE platform of space 370. It was identified as stratigraphically above layer 20831 but not excavated beforehand because of the burials being taken out in platform 3508 next to (and physically underneath) the NE platform. The plaster was 2-4 cm thick around the platform and there were at least 15 layers of replastering above the original (thicker) deposit of plaster. The S side of the platform was more difficult to excavate because it was crumbling from previous seasons excavation of the post-retrieval pit that abuts the eastern wall. 20833 was clearly above a later of makeup (20838) that also grew more fragmentary toward the southern side.
