Interpretive Categories: plaster constructions by wall

Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: wall/blocking

Discussion: This unit is part of a 'funny niche' on the southern wall (F.3096) of B.77. It very well may be a combination of past truncated bin / oven constructions and a platered wall niche. Unfortunately most relationships this unit has with others have been lost due to Neolithic (and possibly archaeological) truncation.

The unit may represent an early feature within wall F.3096 modified to a lower niche. This niche may have supported a wooden plank.

We initally thought that the plaster twithin the unit repressented plaster from the older southern wall (F.7301) of B.77, cut by the construction of F.3096. However the situation is far more complicated than that and it remains unclear what this series of plastered surfaces and make-ups belong to.

Some parts of the plaster construction has a 1/2 cm thick grey silty sand loam make-up behind it. The plastered surface itself was composed of very fine plaster and grey make-up. Plaster on the upper sections of this unit seemed to be at least 15-20 layers thick.
