Unit 21314
Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: partition wall, same unit as 21309
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: wall/blocking; Material: mortar; Deposition: heterogeneous
Description: Very heterogenous material consisting of mortar, clay annd softer midden-like material. Plastered in the northern part (basal boundary for U21309).
Discussion: This layer was during excavation intrepreted as the oldest part of F7316. It had a somewhat clear boundary to U21309 consisting of a irregular layer of plaster. The basal boundary to the floor layer (U30519) was clear. During the excavation of F7315 a specific method of building the partition walls was detected where re-used brick, grey and lighter mortar was used (see U 30527). After this an alternative intrepretation of U21314 and U21309 was made where they are both part of the same event. The unit is clearly heterogenous regarding material. The partition wall was built upon the floor U30519 and on the basal boundary the remains of a layer of hay was detected (sample 3). This might be part of a construction technique that also can be seen in F 7315. Inside the layer a part of an articulated rib and sternum was found (x-find 1) belonging to wild cattle. This unit was excavated using trowel.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
