Unit 21332
Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: infill of scoop F.7585
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: scoop; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: Scoops F.7585 and F.7586 were first thought to be only one scoop.
The infills of these two are indeed very difficult to differenciate. Consistency and color are the same. However, infill of scoop F.7586 contains more animal bones and charcoal.
The excavation shows that there are actually two separate scoops. F.7585 is truncating F.7586 and is thus later.
No archive sample taken.
Consistency: loose
Colour: black - dark grey
Texture: ashy
Bedding: massive
Inclusions: charcoal in quantity (10%) from small to medium. But not as many as in scoop F.7586.
Post-depositional Features: -
Basal Boundary: Bottom of cut u.21331 shows signs of heat and the infill u.30539 is there harder and more black than usual. The contrast is still very prominent and the distinctness is very sharp. On the southern part the basal boundary is the infill of scoop F.7585. The infills of these scoops look very similar, the only distinction is the harder surface of cut u.21331 made by the effect of the heat on infill u.21324.
