Unit 21355
Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Clean grey plaster floors with gypsum salts
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: dark grey clay; Deposition: composite (floors/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation); Basal Spit: unpainted
Discussion: Sequence of two grey floors with their respectives alluvial clay make-up underneath (thickness of finishing coats 1mm each; thickness of clay make-ups 2mm each). These floors appear to have been severely disturbed by gypsum reprecipitation, a taphonomic process that is found further down in the profile. The causes of this phenomenon are still unclear.
No cut edge has been found: this floor sequence is lying on top of an heterogeneous infill U.21358, which also shows evidence of gypsum reprecipitation (milimetric salt inclusions). It is likely that this floor sequence was excavated as part of the floor unit above, 21343 in the SE limit of this layer due to the depositional disturbance present in this area and the difficulty entailed in following the floors, thus creating the effect that there was a cut in this area.
