Unit 21359
Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Packing on lower half of wall above hearth F.7345
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: wall/blocking; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: Small patch of clay packing against the base of the N wall F.3681 and located right above the hearth F.7345. After removing this unit from the wall, we uncovered a vertical sequence of burnt layers and interbedded clay packings placed under the wall F.7345. This sequence resembles a fire installation and is located ca.10cm higher than our current hearth F.7345, at more of less the same level as the grey floors U.21344. It is highly probable that these layers belong to a previous fire installation that was placed against the N wall F.3682 and was left under the later constructed N wall F.3681.
