Unit 21520
Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Infill within structural cut U.21163
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: ditch; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: Heterogeneous fill with substantial gypsum reprecipitation. The deposit slopes markedly towards the W to meet the edge of the hearth F.7345. It is probable that this unit is the same as U.21358, judging from the depth, the texture, and the consistency of this deposit, although no physical connection between the two is visible.
This unit is limited by a thick (ca.10cm width and up to 7cm depth) white plaster ridge towards the S and the E.
Under this deposit lies a thin grey plaster floor that lips up towards the plaster ridge, therefore stating their contemporaneity. Towards the N lies another unit of packing material, separated from the floors by a thin ridge of white plaster. This was probably the packing used for the installation of the hearth F.7607.
Consistency: Compacted
Colour: Light greyish brown
Texture: Sandy clay
Bedding: Compound layered
Inclusions: Microcharcoal
Post-depositional Features: Gypsum reprecipitation, bioturbation (rodent burrowing)
Basal Boundary: Constructional, abrupt, smooth, 10º slope towards the W
