Unit 21635

Category: Cut    dug in 2014

Area: North

Interpretive Categories: burial cut

Data Category Information: Description: burial

Description: Cut within central part of sealed structure of B.132. Not fully excavated in 2014.

Discussion: Feature No. 7640 was assigned to record burial of primary infant located westward from N-E platform of Sp.336, B.77. The feature comprised of a relatively small, shallow and irregular cut (U.21638), loose infill (U.21637) and badly preserved skeleton (U.21639). All of the mentioned above units were recorded after excavating (burned) make-up layer of B.77 (U.22084). Hence, noticeable truncation was actually uncovered not till reaching the surface of lower make-up (U.22080). Worth noticing is the number of preserved organic material of different kind that were collected and photographed as separate samples.
One of the significance involved with the burial is that it appeared to be placed relatively deep considering make-up layer above and the cut had been not recorded before – on the surface of the burned make-up layer. Second issue worth noticing is the location of the feature that was set outside the platform (F.6051) where number of other counterparts were recorded. However, it shares many resemblances with F.7611 which both might be considered as contemporary events or at least their placement indicate plans involved with establishing another platform (F.6062) in the North-Central part of the Sp.336.

2015 SEASON:
In the course of the research work in 2015 the examination of the burial cut (u21635) had been continued and finally completed. The unit appeared to be relatively deep, reaching 0,48m of depth. The base of the cut was flat and based mostly on the revealing of a floor plaster (?).

Finds Room Information:

All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.

X Finds Material: nothing recorded
