Discussion: Unit is a thick layer of clay with many charcoal and ash inclusions located in the main floor area of B 80. It is cut at the w edge by Pillar feature 3433. It laps up onto the clay partition of F. 3442 to the N, the make up/ledge of platform F 3440 to the east (later revealed to be a course of brick and mortar construction abutting the platform floor U. 21774), and borders the hearth (F 7402) to the S. It continues into the space w of the hearth and E of wall F. 5036, that contained the plaster lipping of floor U. 21744. Due to the thickness and durability of the layer it could have served as a major preparation layer or foundational layer for the following micro plastering events (like U. 21759) of the main floors.

Originally thought to be an entirely massive layer due to the lack of laminated layers in the Sw corner near wall F. 5036, it was actually found that the layer near the main floor consists of about 5 micro layers. Mostly gray and brown make up layer with on thin plaster floor lense. It was decided to lump all these layers together in order to proceed with excavations of the main platform. The layers are (from latest to earliest): 1) a thicker (>5cm) homogenous orange clay make up (few inclusions) 2) thin ashy and charcoal rich gray layer 3) whitish brown plaster floor 4) a grayish brown layer with lots of phytoliths (could be chaff material that was deliberately placed at regular patterns as a kind of floor matting) and 5) a misy gray orange make up layer right above the now exposed (but unexcavated) main plaster floor.

Finds Room Information:

All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
