Unit 22208
Category: Layer dug in 2015
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: infill
Data Category Information: Location: between walls; Deposition: heterogeneous
Description: Heterogenous and part of wider fill in space, consisting of mixed burnt soil.
Discussion: Infill 22208 was preserved under wall F2035 and access hole F2186. Since the floor of sp 93 has not been excavated before 2015, it seems that u 22208 is the remains of a wider volume of infill eroded along with the actual floor after its exposure elsewhere in sp93.
u 22208 was excavated until reaching the current level of the rest of sp93. This does not correspond with a change of texture, material or colour. This limit is thus arbitrary. After the removal of u22208, the same kind of infill (identical to u22208) can be observed in all the surface.
Consistency: friable
Colour: light grey brown with orange and grey patches
Texture: clay with small stones and charcoal. Layer is heterogenous and burnt in places unevenly.
Bedding: massive
Inclusions: natural: 5% of black charcoal medium to small fragments and flecks. Geological: 10% small stone light brown fragments.
Post-depositional Features: animal burrow. Insects.
Basal Boundary: Arbitrary. Uneven surface, part of larger fill.
