Discussion: This was recognized as the first and only phase of an oven base because it consisted of firm, flat, smooth fragments of burned clay against the west wall of building 43. One fragment on the north edge curved slightly upward indicating an oven shape and small pieces of what was mostly the oven roof were found lightly scattered across the base. The oven was constructed directly in front of a crawl hole demonstrating that it was in use after the crawl hole was closed.
