Unit 22359
Category: Layer dug in 2016
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Activity
Data Category Information: Deposition: homogeneous
Description: Abandon depoit with ashes, animal bones andclay balls in situ
Discussion: The layer was defined below the trampling layer U22356, just in the SW corner of the space. Is a concentration of charcoal in situ, with an extension of around 0.70 x 0.70 m, with small composition and colour differences between east and west end. In the west part of the deposit the layer was grey light with charcoal and silt in the composition with a few animal bones visible and only 0.02 m deep. In the E part the layer was dark grey with much more concentration of charcoal and burned remains, and maybe the remains of phytoliths around the bones concentration, so we decided to take a sample. The deposit was also deeper here around 0.08 m, and there was a clay ball (X1), a possible ground stone (X2) and animal bones. The deposit was laying on the room floor.
After the priority feedback we confirm a quantity of smashed animal bones (bos, equs) and there was also flakes of obsidian, probably from two different napping sessions. The anthropology specialists find a worked wood and/or fragment wooden artefact. So that finds match maybe better with an activity layer than the abandon one.
Consistency: I was quite loose very easy to remove
Colour: Grey in the west and dark grey in the East part of the deposit
Texture: The ashes was the dominant part of the deposit around
Bedding: Layered, at least a fine diferent layer of ashes a bit more dark in the east part of the deposit.
Inclusions: Charcoal we also took phytoliths samples.
Post-depositional Features: There was salts and rest of burning remains
Basal Boundary: Abrupt, but the depostit was a clearly slope in direction W-E

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
