Unit 2251
Category: cluster dug in 1997
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Human skull fragment
Data Category Information: none
Description: The soil surrounding the skull, 55 Liters, was described as follows…
Discussion: Mid x-y taken from 1.05m West and 1.80 m North of Pt#E1055 and N1180. The unit is 25 cm. EW and 28 cm. N-S.
While cleaning unit 2212 a human skull was found in the southeast section wall at/near the surface. It was decided to remove the skull because it seemed to have been brought in by animal (below it, in the burial section, a large animal hole was visible). Near the skull (see sketch, skull marked with X) was also a human bone, possibly a finger. This possible finger is probably not related but may be?.
After the skull was removed a harder surface was reached.
Only 5 L. of soil was initially removed, too little for flotation. Apparently, according to unit sheet, however, an additional 50 L. was later removed.

Unit description: A very small unit, apparently consisting of handpicked material near a human skull. While the unit sheet mentions a flotation sample, we have no heavy residue. it consists of 4 groddy pieces of sheep-size scrap, most of them quite weathered and worn. It looks very worked over and redeposited, like fill. Last number = 4Figurine Records: No GroundStone Records: No Heavy Residue Records: No Microfaunal Records: No
