Unit 23205
Category: Layer dug in 2017
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Floors
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: mix (dark grey&white); Deposition: composite (floors/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation); Basal Spit: unpainted
Discussion: Layer exposed in the side room of building 161 after remove the floor U32641. We remove within the same unit the remains of the very earliest floor of this space and also the make-up. The remnants of the floor were very patchy and almost impossible to follow. Was a bit better preserved in the south east part of the room, with areas with white plaster, but mostly in the whole surface, the color was grey and orange, pretty mixed and very thin. The rest of the deposit belongs to the make-up.
The make-up is grey orange, very compact and mixed with remains of plaster, smashed bricks and clay. In the NW corner of the space we exposed two bones (S3-S4).
For the characteristics of this make up, we think that can be same layer exposed below the fire installations (as the U32654).
Consistency: Very compact
Colour: White greyish (floor) grey orange (make up)
Texture: Mostly clay, but also silt and sand. The percentatge of clay is more than 60 %
Bedding: Layered on the top, maybe two very thin patchy floors, and then the make up, that was quite thick
Inclusions: Flecks of charcoal, small natural stones (plaster), smashed bricks, plaster (make up)
Post-depositional Features: Salts
Basal Boundary: Trampled and abrupt distinctness with smooth surface
