Unit 23604
Category: Layer dug in 2017
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: infill of basin
Data Category Information: Location: floor (packing only); Material: plaster; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: Pre-excavation - from the top there looks to be a thick white plaster layer about 2-3cm thick running around the perimeter of the fill, with a light grey to white centre, which is where the archive sample came from. This turned out to be quite chunky/irregular in nature, with lots of small chunky balls of yellow and orange clay that were also covered in the grey-white plaster. The bottom of the fill (interface between grey-white plaster and white plaster that rimmed the perimeter) turned out to be not smoothed or super distinct from the plastery make-up that comprised this fill. Although the centre was more grey, it was very patchy and contained a lot of large white patches identical to the white perimeter. Eventually I just took out everything as the same fill with slight variations in colour.
