Unit 2521
Category: layer dug in 1997
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: grave fill, part of platform
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial; Deposition: homogeneous
Dimensions: v. small patch of deposit - removed by mattock, but prob. no more than 0.2 m x 0.1m
Discussion: This little block of fill contained a disarticulated human foot (2520), but as it was so similar to platform makeup deposit 2514 it was mattocked out along with this other material. Though partially derived from 2514, this deposit must be a remnant of grave fill, perhaps derived from burial 38.
Execution: mattock, shovel, trowel
Condition: warm, dry
Consistency: weak
Colour: very mixed, but basically a 10yr 5/4 yellowish brown, with mottles of darker greyer material
Texture: sandy silty loam
Bedding: massive
Inclusions: frags of mudbrick (<30 mm <5%), flecks of charcoal (<5%), frags and traces of crushed plaster (2%)
Post-depositional Features: some salt deposition
Basal Boundary: unknown, but as material=so similar to 2514 the interface was presumably not very clear, otherwise (hopefully!) the original excavator should have defined it.
