Unit 2884
Category: layer dug in 1998
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: infilling material
Data Category Information: Location: between walls; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: The top 10 cm of this organic-rich and very mixed deposit were removed to level it to the height of [88] to the west to provide a more stable surface. The deposit curves around the end of wall [69] and appears to represent an infilling process which tool place before the walls to the south (i.e. [70]) were constructed to provide an even surface to build against to the North. How this took place is difficult to tell. The deposit could represent a gradual accumulation of material swept from the roof of the buildings to either side. Alternatively it could have been added in a single episode before the final brick of [70] was added. (2884) is very similar in composition to (2873). It may be that these have become separated by later cracking, but actually represent part of the same infilling activity. This *might* be clarified by excavation?

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
X Finds Material: nothing recorded
Finds Material Stored: nothing recorded
