Unit 30548
Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Burial fill
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: The full extent of this unit was impossible to define due to its truncation caused by later burial activity. The fill was first excavated from the western side to uncover a number of long-bones belonging to Sk.30549. The bones undercut the platform and the cut of the burial was not well defined, therefore u.30559 (layers of plaster surface and make-up) was removed from platform F.6051 in hopes to reach the eastern boundaries of the fill. Once the thick layer of plaster was removed, it became apparent that fill u.30548 actually lipped the platform to the east, abutting the eastern wall, as if to provide extra height to the platform at its NE corner abutting the E wall, before it was re-plastered after the burial event. This lip was only about 1cm thick, pealing off to the E to surface u.30102 and then dipping into the cut of burial F.7137.
The fill was mostly excavated by fine tools. There was a very high concentration of salt within the matrix.
This may be the same unit as some of the fills excavated in 2011 - this will be evaluated post-ex.
