Unit 30839
Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: TPC
Interpretive Categories: floor makeup
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: mix (dark grey&white); Deposition: composite (floors/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation); Basal Spit: unpainted
Discussion: This unit was recognized after the removal of u. 30766, an overlying fill layer which revealed floor f. 7199 after it was excavated. It was underneath a patchy plaster layer (u. 30838) and itself contained some small patches of plaster, suggesting this may be the makeup of successive floors which did not preserve. It contained a great deal of barley, which makes sense given the relationship to sp. 493 (shared wall f. 3981)-- and also contained a great deal of charcoal. Beneath this layer was a layer of homogeneous orange construction material, to be excavated next season (u. 30878).
Consistency: friable
