Category: Layer dug in 2016
Area: TPC
Interpretive Categories: oven floor
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: oven; Material: baked; Deposition: composite (floors/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation)
Discussion: The layer wasn't excavated in 2016. The unit number was given just to take some charcoal samples from it. Samples for C14 dating was taken as S1. (JH 17.07 2016). The part of the layer not overlaid by wall F7176 was excavated in 2017 in order to acquire more potential material for C14 dating. The layer was visibly severely burnt/baked (as expected from oven floor) the surface was black and towards the bottom it gradually changed the color originally it might have been composed of several very thin plaster layers that all together easily flaked off visibly different underlying makeup layer U32852.
Consistency: compact
Colour: black and dark grey at the top gradually changing to dark orange at the bottom
Texture: silty clay
Bedding: massive althought top might have been separate thin (1mm) layer of plaster
Inclusions: none
