Discussion: Bottom layer of F.99 has its basal boundary on several floor layers. Again a general building composite, not easily distinguishable as brick or mortar, fairly hard and dense material. 

 

Recognition: visible layer upon trowelling 

Definition: fairly clear, onto wall F.263 

Execution: trowel and mattock 

Condition: solid and dry 

Consistency: dry but fairly hard 

Colour: 10 YR 5/3 brown 

Texture: fairly coarse clay 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: charcoal 5 %, plaster, bone, stone 2 % 

Post-depositional Features: none of note 

Basal Boundary: reasonably clear but several different floor layers underneath. Even basal boundary ascending into wall F.263
