Data Category Information: Location: between walls; Deposition: homogeneous

 

Discussion: Unit 31124 is an interfill (fill between walls) and lies between unit 17247 to the north and unit 18351 to the southwest. The unit goes on further east where it is limited by F2428 in this area. It might have been a thick layer of wall plaster which has not been removed yet. The fill is only a small line to the west but grows thicker to the east. Due to the disturbance by a later pit it could have been extended to the very west of F5074. How deep the inter layer goes down is unclear. However some neighbouring walls (e.g. between F2413 and F2425) show only a thin layer of interfill (fill between walls) at the top which afterwards flattens out further down. This might also be the case with unit 31124. The interfill (fill between walls) contained almost no finds except some burned grains and was of homogeneous structure. 

 

Consistency: loose, compact 

Colour: beige-brown 

Texture: silty, chalk 

Bedding: compound (brick rests too, some liimestone specks) 

Inclusions: very small stones, chalk, lenses of charcoal 

Post-depositional Features: erosion, plants, animal holes/burrow 

Basal Boundary: thining out until join; flat 

 

Dry sieve volume: 40
