Unit 31579
Category: Cut dug in 2016
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: post-retrieval pit within NW platform
Data Category Information: Description: pit
Discussion: an irregular semi-oval cut U.31579 was identified in NW corner of Sp.531. Its top outline was easy to distinguish due to visible truncation of the plastered platform (F.7722) and distinct composition of the infill (31578) which was accumulated within the pit (F.7723). Whole northern edge of the cut adjacent directly to the Northern wall (F.7584) of B.132, within whom (on the very spot) vertical scar had been registered. The scar must have been related with the actual placement of the post(s) that were taken during the abandonment phase of the building. In fact, the whole recorded evidence of the presented cut and corresponded extensive truncation should be regarded as a result of regaining valuable wooden source in order to its further employment within younger mud-brick structure. The shape of the cut indicate clearly the digging activities concentrated on taking out the post(s).
The base of the cut U.31579 was marked by an undulation with distinct 2 circular and 1 semi-circular depressions (post-holes) that may indicate real placement of the posts whose role was important in the constructional and residential phases of the edifice.
Additionally, the letter interpretation is tested by the depth of the cut, measured 71cm (from the top to the deepest spot), which lays ca. 50cm below the base of the N-wall (F.7584) of B.132. Within the unit interesting is placement of one of the post-holes on the bottom which probable constituted semi-circular post set against the mentioned mudbrick construction.
Shape: irregular semi-ovoid
Sides: vertical
Base Break: sharp
Base: irregular, undulated with distinct 3 depressions which most possible areactual postholes or an imprints of the posts' placements.
Orientation: NS
