Discussion: This is a chaffy ? bricky fabric which on the upper surface seems to have been applied as a brick among other grey and orange brown bricks. However the section on the N side of F.279 shows sloping alternating layers of these two colour "bricks"and on excavation it was clear that the adjacent grey "brick" was overlying the neat orange one to the W. Coming down over the S face of F.279 this deposit had been spread ? across a surface of plaster which is now vertical, filling thespace between 2 jutting-out plastered lumps. After removal of (3198) it was clear that plaster surface (3300) overlies the bricky deposit immediately N of (3198) at the upper level and that F.279 had mulitple layers of bricky clay and plaster.
Recognition: Brick like deposit in F.279, W end. An orange brown bricky chunk overlying plaster layer (3300).
Definition: Boundaries only became clear in lower areas upon excavation, but on upper surface linear divisions between "brickettes" were visible. Lower areas overlay plaster (3300).
