Unit 32041
Category: Layer dug in 2016
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: plaster
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: pedestal/podium/plinth; Material: white clay; Deposition: multiple; Basal Spit: unpainted
Discussion: Unit 32041 refers to combined 2 mid-white plaster layers whose lamination was divided by 1 mid-orange make-up. The mentioned layers coated continuously the top surface as well as 3 sides (Northern, Western and Southern) of the bench F.7879 placed in Eastern segment of Sp.531. The exploration of the assigned unit revealed that the nature of plastering the Southern and Western sides of the feature was related with the coating episodes that were conducted in central part of the room and in particular with plasters recorded there as U.32032. They both (U.32032 and 32041) most plausibly might be regarded as contemporary in term of coating sequence.
The thickness of respective layers constituting the unit 32041 varied depending on the position. Accordingly, the ones recorded on the vertical faces of the feature to the West and South were thicker (white plaster: 2-3mm; Make-up: 3mm). However, on the Eastern side and on the top surface, which was flat and slightly sloping in SE direction, the presented coating remained as thin deposits which sometimes were difficult to distinguish. Important is to note that the exploration of the unit 32041 brought into view clear relationship between plastering episodes conducted within E-platform (F.7734) and the Bench (F.7879). Both of the features must have acted together in some way considering numbers of plaster-sequences. The plasters and make-up covered in total area: 127cm x 65cm which includes also the sloped sides of the Bench. The top surface of the mentioned rectangular feature measured only: 103cm x 48cm.
