Unit 32133
Category: Layer dug in 2017
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: midden,pit fill
Data Category Information: Location: external; Deposition: finely bedded
Discussion: This unit consists of compound midden layers, alternating between fine layers of ash and charcoal and clay deposits built up against clay packing/constructional element (32135). In the north the unit was delimited by a retention wall (F.5078). In the east, however, the limits of the unit were not clear. Additionally, the northwestern corner was truncated by a post-neolithic burial (F.5777) In addition to a general eastward slope, the truncation by the BACH team along with years of exposure and erosion made the limits of the unit hard to define. In grids 11-12, a fire pit was contained in this unit, which was excavated as S5 (prioritized) in the interest of time. The unit also contained articulated elements and bones that seem to have come from the same animal suggesting distinct localized activities, although these were mixed with other 'background' bones and finds, perhaps pointing to varied accumulation rates and deposition. Priority feedback on S5 and dry sieve volume info by grid can be found below.
Priority feedback:
S5 consists of a circular fire pit with a depth of 12cm. The chipped stone assemblage, dominated by Gollu Dag obsidian, was composed mostly of fragments and indicated some trampling. The faunal assemblage contained ~2-3 sheep and a high number of articulations. These elements were mostly burned (so little or no flesh was left on when burning) pointing towards possible trash burning event post-consumption.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
X Finds Material: nothing recorded
Finds Material Stored: nothing recorded
