Unit 3531
Category: layer dug in 1999
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: room fill
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: 3526 comes off on to top of 3531, also building structural collapse, but more compact, veriegeted + containing chunks of roofing material. This is all taken from area underlying White Monster. Still not clear if remains of White Monster are in situ or not. After further removal of 3531 now definite that lower parts of W. Monster are in situ - thin screen of Monster is between stretches of walling ???? between sp. 86 and sp. 158. 3531 ??? mixed - towards S it also includes patches of burnt midden-like materials. On East side of screen wall difficult to remove 3531 without collapsing screen wall as it has slumped towards E.

Unit description: The bone from this unit is moderately fragmented, the majority of the bone is unidentifiable long bone shaft fragments and rib pieces. Sheep/goat dominate the identifiable portion but there are a few pieces of cattle skull. Some bone has been digested and burnt bone is present in low proportions that is generally represented by carbonised fragments. One piece of bird was recovered from the dry sieve. Flotation sample #1 contained a number of teeth of what was probably the same caprine maxilla from a subadult. A few fish bones were also retrieved from this sample.
